Competition Information
15th Annual America's Finest City Homebrew Competition
February 23th and 24th, 2007
BJCP Sanctioned Competition
AHA Sanctioned Competition
The following are this year's vital facts:
- Judging will take place on Friday and Saturday, 2/23/07&
2/24/07.
- Entry fee is $6.00 for each entry.
- 2004 BJCP Competition Style Guidelines will be followed for
judging all styles. Click here for the 2004 BJCP Style Guidelines.
- Make checks payable to Charles West and include
with entries.
- Registration is online only. Click here to register
your entries online and generate bottle labels for you.
- Ship 2 (two) bottles per entry (1st round plus best of show).
- Indicate by arrow which side is up, so we can store the boxes
properly.
- Ship entries to: AFC c/o AleSmith Brewing Co. 9368 Cabot Dr. San
Diego, CA 92126
- Entries will be accepted from 2/2/07 through 2/16/07.
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries in each category will receive a
medal.
- Special awards for beer and mead Best of Shows and "Brewing
Machine" (based on 6-3-1 point totals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
respectively). Additional prizes and awards may be awarded at
organizer's discretion and based on availability.
- Entries shipped or hand-delivered to AleSmith will be placed in
their walk-in cooler. In past years, many of the San Diego county home
brew supply shops have been generous in accepting "walk-in" entries,
which we collect in bulk after the entry window closes. Here is a list of drop-off locations.
- Entrants are limited to one entry per substyle, but may have more
than one entry per category. For example, and entrant may enter a
Traditional Bock and a Doppelbock (separate substyles within the Bock
category), but may not enter two Traditional Bocks.
- Minimum scores for awards are as follows: 35 pts. for 1st place,
30 for 2nd, and 25 for 3rd. Our intent is to only reward award winning
quality beers, not to give out meaningless awards because of a bad beer
being the only entry in a category.
- Due to limited space and concentration level required by the
judges, the judging will not be open to spectators or brewers. However,
we always welcome stewards and qualified judges to assist in the
judging process. Please register
online for judging or stewarding or contact the Competition
Organizer.
- A special block of rooms have been reserved at the beautiful San Diego Handlery Hotel
& Resort for the AFC judging weekend. If you are
interested in a room, call the hotel directly at 619-298-0511 or
1-800-676-6567, and make reservations under the name “Quaff Group”. If
you're not too picky, a decent, clean, quiet room can be had at the Good Nite Inn. If you're
traveling with your non-beer spouse, make them happy and stay at the
Handlery.
Good Luck,
Chris Toth
